Noura Sakkijha might be a third generation jewelry maker, but she’s turned the art of jewelry making into a 21st century concept all her own. As the CEO of Mejuri, Sakkijha brings jewelry designers and consumers together from around the world on her website, a crowdsourcing startup based right here in Toronto. We caught up with Sakkijha to find out more about her life, career and passions outside of work…
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
CEO of Mejuri. I am the third generation in my family to work in fine jewelry; I have a huge passion for fresh designs and creative ideas. I moved to beautiful Toronto 5 years ago and I am completely in love with the city!
I am a vegetarian, I love chocolate, and I love traveling. Things that I’d love to do more are yoga, meditation, and playing tennis.
What are three things you can’t live without?
Family and friends is definitely my number one, other than that I would say a nice home to go back to, my phone, and coffee.
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…it is so diverse and multicultural. I love taking walks in downtown Toronto and seeing how alive the city is with different cultures. I met so many amazing people in Toronto and learned about great cultures and that definitely added so much to my personal growth.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
I really like Pomegranate – love the food, the atmosphere and the service. I also like Lee (who doesn’t?) and Mezes. Mezes was one of my family’s favourite places to get together so it has a sentimental value to me and the food is delicious!
What’s one of your favourite go-to designers/brands or accessories lines and why do you sport their fashions?
I would say my style is simple and feminine. I do not necessarily have one favourite brand, I like to explore new things and support independent designers and I do a lot of shopping online. For bags I really like Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, and every girl loves a classic Chanel!
What products are always your beauty/grooming bag?
Lipstick and an eye liner (Revlon is my favourite so far).
What style trends are you obsessed with right now?
I love the floral prints and the emerald green. I love seeing these trends on jewelry and I really like the chunky bangles.
What’s your favourite spa or service?
I love getting massages – I wouldn’t mind going to a spa every day of my life! Some of my favourite spas in the city are Hammam and the Ritz.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with your busy life?
