We caught up with Parker to find out more about her unique career, her favourite spots in Toronto and current fashion and beauty obsessions.
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
I’m a stylist/editor/event coordinator/wardrobe consultant/educational developer. When I’m not working, I’m usually reorganizing my apartment, strolling around my nabe (Yonge and St. Clair), or reading magazines. And when I’m working with a glass of wine in my hand, it means I’m DJing psychedelic rock at The Garrison.
What are the biggest challenges and best rewards about what you do?
Being a freelancer, it’s hard to resist the urge to work all hours of the day. I really have to force myself to step away from the computer and make personal time. However, the reward of being an entrepreneur is that I have the flexibility to be able to take on projects that I really find fulfilling.
What are three things you can’t live without?
A good cuppa tea, a pile of vintage accessories, and Led Zeppelin.
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
There’s no shortage of creativity, and it’s very walkable.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
416 Snack Bar is my desert island/last meal/can’t live without spot. I love their trini doubles and their Reuben sandwich, and the VQA Pinot Noir they have is so tasty.
What’s one of your favourite go-to designers/brands or accessories lines and why do you sport their fashions?
Comrags always has the best prints and an amazing mix of sensibilities in their designs; you can wear any piece with a pair of Converse and still look smart, or dress it up with your favourite accessories and totally change the vibe of the look. I love how personal you can make their style.
What products are always your beauty/grooming bag?
The only beauty products I really ever use are CoverGirl concealer and Rimmel mascara. If I’m going out, I’ll put some powder on and some blush, and if I’m going to meet say, the Queen of England, maybe some lipstick too. Perfume is my only essential – I have two faves, Marc Jacobs and a fragrance by Carthusia that my parents brought me back from Italy.
What style trends are you obsessed with right now?
I’m really into bright gem drop earrings, brogues/oxfords and clutch bags – the zanier, the better in all categories.
What’s your favourite spa or service?
Lush & Lavish has a foot massage service for $25, and it’s the best treat after a busy streak. It’s so relaxing, and a very affordable indulgence.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with your busy life?
Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest and www.odessapalomaparker.com for my portfolio, etc.
