If you’ve ever dreamed of owning an old Hollywood designer dress worthy of a young Elizabeth Taylor, then you need only go to RESCUE Vintage on Ossington. Situated right between Queen and Dundas, RESCUE might be easy to miss for first-time visitors, but once you’ve been inside Renee Kaylor’s magical womenswear boutique, you’ll never walk by it again without dreaming of all the unique pieces that can transform your own closet into an enviable boudoir. We caught up with Kaylor, a stylist turned store owner, to find out more about her life in Toronto and her one-of-a-kind store, which mixes awesome new designer clothes with vintage designer wear from Chanel to Dior that’s she scoured the continent to find.
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
California girl. Stylist. Boutique owner. Artist. Amateur aerialist. Coffee addict. Fall is my favourite time of year. And I’m obsessed with puppies.
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…I have everything at my fingertips; if I can dream it up, I can find it here. Amazing shopping, the best restaurants, exciting music scene and nightlife, spectacular hikes and beaches nearby, and a real diversity of cultures make this city the best place to live! There’s always something new and exciting happening. I’m still discovering hidden gems after living here for 6 years, and I’m proud to call Toronto my home.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
My daily jolt from Crafted, my morning run in High Park, and my annual overseas adventures.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Living in Little Portugal, I have so many delicious choices, but my overall favourite has to be Union. Their menu changes daily using farm fresh ingredients, and I’m never disappointed. Definitely leave room for the Sticky Ginger Cake… so good you’ll want to lick the bowl!
Who’s your favourite designer/brand and why do you sport their fashions?
There is no way I can pick just one! My closet is filled with quality vintage creations by Alaia, Chanel, Hermes and Dior, as well as classic designs by Ted Baker, cozy White+Warren cashmeres, luxe-casual Sam&Lavi prints, and Jenny Bird jewelry. My personal style is feminine, romantic and classic, and I am drawn to pieces that look great and feel great on. The perfect combination of comfortable fabric, interesting design and quality construction is a must for any piece in my wardrobe.
