Don’t let the name of his debut art show, Aimless, fool you. Scott Boniface is anything but. The artist and photographer is also the Co-Founder and Project Manager at Playground, a Toronto-based digital creative agency. We caught up with the 21st century Renaissance man to get the lowdown on his current obsessions, favourite tunes and life in the arts.
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
I’m Scott Boniface and I’m from Scarborough originally. I’m Co-Founder and Project Manager at Playground, a digital creative agency here in Toronto. We craft products, experiences and platforms that transform brands. Some of our clients are Canada Goose, Random House and Corus Entertainment. I get to work on amazing projects with my close friends everyday, and I’m truly blessed for that.
I’m also an artist and photographer. Last year I displayed and sold work in a half a dozen group exhibitions. I will be having my debut solo show September 5th called Aimless at the Moniker Gallery — I hope you’ll join me opening night! I have plans to continue showing work here in Toronto as well as internationally over the next few years.
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…it’s home. I feel so fortunate to be born and raised as a Canadian, especially in such a wonderful city like Toronto. I really wouldn’t have it any other way.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
Aside from the smart ass reply of oxygen, water and food — I could not live without the relationships I have with my family, friends and loved ones. The connections and experiences I’ve made with people are irreplaceable. I would say the clichéd answer of music also. I really do have a deep love for discovering new music. Humour is definitely something I cherish and it would suck if everything was taken seriously. I feel like I’m always in pursuit of the people or content that can make me genuinely laugh.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Oh man, I’m glad you asked. You’re going to want to go to Bitondo’s in Little Italy and get them to make you a fresh panzerotti. Get some tomato sauce on the side for dipping and thank me later. It has an authentic mom and pop feel and is the most delicious.
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
I’m not much of a cocktail drinker but I do love me some beer. My recent favourite would have to be the Fruit Stand Watermelon Wheat by Kensington Brewing Company, and my favourite place to go and get it would be Thirsty & Miserable in Kensington. It’s a little rough around the edges but has a great selection of beers and a relaxed atmosphere.
What’s currently on your playlist?
Right now I’ve been enjoying Chance the Rapper, Eli Prince, Toro Y Moi, Shigeto and The Illz.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with all your city-trotting?
Instagram, Facebook or my website would be best. I’m always interested in hearing about people’s ideas or thoughts so please don’t hesitate to send me a message!
