Shawn Rusich is the dapper Director of Butter Public Relations – one of the city’s top tier PR firms in the food and related industries – which he started but three years ago and has already built an impressive roster of premium clients. Let’s chat with this sartorially adept communications pro, shall we…?
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
Having lived in Montreal for the better part of a decade, in Paris for over a year, and with extensive travels around-the-world, I’ve chosen to settle in Toronto and now consider it home. I’ve always had a penchant for food and have literally made a living of it as a result. I run Butter Public Relations Inc., a PR firm dedicated to food-related clients both in Canada and internationally. I’ve had years of formal training in kitchens and have also worked as a server, so I feel I have a good sense of all the industry has to offer. My early years were dedicated to the fashion industry, which still holds a special place in my heart.
Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…of how good it’s been to me and my palate.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
Travel, cookbooks/magazines and the people that are closest to me, both near and far.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
It’s impossible to pick just one. In Toronto my defaults are Nota Bene at any time, Cafe Nervosa for business lunches, Swan for brunch, Enoteca Sociale and Kingyo, to name a few.
Favourite overall experience: Ristorante da Sira e Remino in San Gusmè, Siena.
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
I’m pretty simple with drinks. Wine and beer mostly, though (Hoof) Cocktail Bar makes a killer Manhattan that I enjoy on the regular. If there was a better offer of Moscow Mules in the city, it would be my go-to drink without hesitation.
Who’s your favourite designer/brand and why do you sport their fashions?
Burberry (Christopher Bailey) and Costume National when in Toronto and Paris, respectively. Both collections are cut for tall, slim people. The fit and fabrics are top-notch.
