Calling all Toronto fashionistas as your time is upon us! World MasterCard Fashion Week (WMCFW) is set to land once again in our fair city and this means only one thing: from March 17th until the 21st the sidewalk is a runway. If you live or work anywhere near or around David Pecaut Square (215 King Street W.) be prepared to see, be seen, and be part of the scene as designers flock from near and far to showcase their threads. For 5 days there will be a multitude of fashion shows, endless exclusive parties, and plenty of pretty people strutting around in less than sensible clothing – because fashion is sacrifice, dahling!
Speaking of sacrifices, I have worked WMCFW in the past and let me tell you that it is a tirade of schmoozing, air-kissing, the occasional tantrum, and very little time for nourishment (possibly the reason for said tantrums – hungry does not equal happy). While this may be fine for most attendees I myself need food no matter how revealing the dress du jour may be. So for those who enjoy a few calories with their couture we have a roundup of the best places to grab a bite during Toronto Fashion Week…
Luma
Enjoy lunch or dinner from a locally driven menu while looking over the hubbub on King West and soaking in the creative energy that lives in TIFF Bell Lightbox. There is also a ‘bites’ menu available in the lounge after 3pm if you just require a quick refuel in between shows.
Big Daddy’s
Whether you are looking for a light bite or in need of something more substantial, this lively New Orleans style restaurant has got you covered. You can choose to hang out at the bar and enjoy small plates for as little as $2 each (3pm to 6pm, Tuesday to Friday; 4pm onwards, Monday and Sunday) or treat yourself to a long lunch with catfish tacos and a couple of cocktails.
Little Anthony’s
Proving that great food doesn’t have to break the bank, this gorgeous osteria is affordable and tasty, and close to all the action so you can fill up without missing a beat.
Michael’s on Simcoe
Treat yourself to a beautiful steak, aged in-house, at this Financial District favourite. Menu options also include hand-made pastas and wonderfully constructed seafood dishes ensuring a meal that will be right on trend with your taste buds.
The Shore Club
Head to the south side of the action and enjoy a gorgeous, fresh salad and some quality seafood to keep it light but still satisfying. Or perhaps you may prefer to chill out in the bar and enjoy an enticing cocktail or two if it’s more of a ‘liquid lunch’ kind of day.
