On Saturday, September 10th, TIFF’s Festival Street was busier than usual.
A handpicked audience of press and tastemakers were invited to a special screening of clips from the Oscar-contender, Hidden Figures. The film, which actually isn’t even complete yet, is about three women who played vital roles in NASA’s first space missions.
A Q&A with Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae, plus producers Pharrell Williams and Jenno Topping followed the screening and afterward, guests and film lovers flooded Festival Street for that Pharrell concert that had Torontonians abuzz.
Unfortunately for those who arrived later, capacity was limited but over 500 fans flooded TIFF Festival Street for the outdoor show, which was actually more of a teaser than ‘concert’, and sipped on Casamigos cocktails. The Happy singer passed on singing his regular bangers and instead, performed two songs from the feature film: Runnin’ and I See a Victory. On stage, Pharrell was joined by Kim Burrell, Lala Hathaway and the Local Gospel Group Echoes of Praise.
