Our Top 20 Must Watch Films at the Toronto International Film Festival this year:
1. Hustlers

The star-studded film is about a group of strippers who band together to ~hustle~ their Wall Street clients. The film stars J.Lo, Constance Wu, Lizzo and Lili Reinhart.
2. Blackbird

Starring Kate Winslet, Mia Wasikowska and Susan Sarandon, this is a remake of the Danish film Silent Heart. It focuses on a dying mother’s final weekend with her entire family before she ends her life.
3. Just Mercy

A biographical film which focuses on attorney Bryan Stevenson as he takes on the case of a man convicted of murder . The cast includes Brie Larson, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx.
4. Ford v Ferrari

An American automotive designer and British race car driver team up to build a unique vehicle for Ford Motor Co. The film boasts of a star-studded cast which includes Matt Damon, Christian Bale, Caitriona Balfe, Jon Bernthal and Josh Lucas.
5. It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

A biographical film based on the Esquire article Can You Say…Hero? by Tom Junod. The film features Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers and Matthew Rhys as an Esquire journalist.
6. Joker

Todd Phillips’ dark as hell take on the Batman villain starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker.
7. The Goldfinch

This is the film adaptation of the bestselling book, starring Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson and Ansel Elgort. The subject of the film is a young man who gets into the world of art forgery.
8. Clemency

The subject of this film is a death row prison warden, played by Alfre Woodard. The film also stars Danielle Brooks.
9. Harriet

It is a biographical film about Harriet Tubman, played by Cynthia Erivo. Other cast members include Joe Alwyn, Janelle Monáe and Leslie Odom Jr.
10. Human Capital

The lives of two families collide after an impulsive business deal and a tragic accident. It is directed by Marc Meyers’ (My Friend Dahmer) and is an adaptation of Paolo Virzi’s 2014 film, starring Liev Schreiber, Marisa Tomei, Peter Sarsgaard, Maya Hawke, and Alex Wolff.
11. Knives Out

A murder mystery film where a detective investigates the death of a family patriarch. The film features Daniel Craig, Toni Collette, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, and LaKeith Stanfield.
12. Motherless Brooklyn – Directed by Edward Norton

The story of a private detective played by Edward Norton, diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome as he attempts to solve the murder of his friend (played by Bruce Willis). Other cast members include Willem Dafoe, Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Cherry Jones.
13. Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and the Band

This feature documentary is directed by Daniel Roher (Ghosts of Our Forest) and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Brian Grazer, and Ron Howard. It focuses on Robertson from his early life in Toronto to the formation of legendary roots-rock group The Band. It is the TIFF 2019 opening film.
14. Ordinary Love

A married couple is pushed to their limits when the wife (played by Lesley Manville) is diagnosed with cancer. The film also stars Liam Neeson.
15. Radioactive

A biographical film which focuses Marie Curie, played by Rosamund Pike. The film is set to be the Closing Night Gala for TIFF 2019.
16. The Sky Is Pink

An Indian film which is based on the love story of a couple spanning 25 years as seen through the eyes of their teenage daughter. The film stars Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar.
17. The Song of Names

The film stars Tim Roth as Martin and Clive Owen as Dovidl, two childhood friends from London who have been affected by World War II.
18. True History of the Kelly Gang

A film about the life and crimes of 19th-century Australian outlaw Ned Kelly, based on Peter Carey’s Booker Prize–winning novel. The film features Russell Crowe and Charlie Hunnam.
19. Western Stars

An intimate and personal concert film co-directed by Thom Zimny and Bruce Springsteen.
20. Abominable

This is a computer-animated adventure film which follows the story of Yi and her adventure with a Yeti as she tries to help the creature reunite with his family on top of Mount Everest.
