Trending Beauty
The beauty industry has changed a lot in the many centuries it has been around. Back in Renaissance Italy, high-born ladies would drop belladonna, a poison, into their eyes because it produced a very aesthetically pleasing effect. This poisonous plant would dilate ladies’ pupils, an effect that the men of the day found very pleasing. The saying “beauty is pain” really fits here, as the belladonna eventually leads to blindness. Cleopatra would bathe in milk to keep her skin luscious and supple, and she would line her eyes with kohl, and the ancient Greeks would exfoliate themselves with a mixture of olive oil and sea salt.
Thankfully our beauty products and makeup regimens come to us slightly more easily and less dangerously these days, though some of our modern beauty treatments do echo those used in the distant past. Let’s look to the future now and the exciting beauty trends that experts predict we will see in the magazines and in our own mirrors come 2022.

Main Trends
Stick Formula Products
There’s no doubt that things are easier to use when you can rub them straight onto your face, smudge a little, and be done. There’s also no denying that we love anything that is guaranteed not to leak or explode all over your handbag. That’s why any cosmetic made in stick form is here to stay. This year has seen a few well-known cosmetic companies coming out with sticks, and the trend is set to take off even further in 2022. The sheer amount of products that can be made in stick form is staggering, so expect to see a lot of your favorite beauty houses coming out with at least one product in this convenient, trendy form.
Light, Glowing Foundation
We’ve all spent a lot of time in our homes and mostly makeup-less for the last few years. While this development has thrown full-face makeup lovers back into their routines with a vengeance, it seems that the trend is moving towards really light and simple looks, starting with foundation. What people are looking for these days is simple, easy, and quick, and that’s just what the new minimal approach to beauty is asking for from foundations. The layered, powdered Instagram looks that have been popular for the last few years are currently gasping for their last breaths, so ditch the full coverage and go for something that makes you look like you have natural skin. Texture and marks on your skin are real and natural; trying to camouflage them forever will just result in a pasty clown makeup situation, so embrace the change! The matte look is out, and luminous, glowing skin is what everyone is after.

Less Is More
Skinimalism (minimalism for skin) is here to stay. Just like the capsule wardrobe came to wipe out the apartment-sized walk-in closet, so too has the minimalist beauty regime come to wipe out hour-long makeup sessions. Many beauty houses have released minimal beauty packages just in time for the holidays, but don’t worry if you can’t get your hands on one now; they’ll still be around in the new year. We are seeing multi-use products (a balm that functions as a lip, cheek, and eye tint all in one) taking the place of ten different items we might previously have had to fulfill those duties. A simple blush, highlighter, mascara, BB cream or foundation, two eyeshadow, and two lip options are all you really ever need to have in your makeup bag as you step into 2022. We have to say; we’ll be glad to be rid of the clutter!
Other Trends
Brow Beaten
While minimal beauty is here, that doesn’t mean you can’t still have a good time, and that starts with your brows. The brow bleaching trend hasn’t left, but now its friends Glitter Brows and Wild Brows have joined the party too.

Make a Statement
If you like things a little louder, then statement eyes are the trend for you. These can still be minimalist if you want- use one color of liquid eyeliner and go wild with Matisse-inspired designs.
Purple Reign
Would you believe me if I said, alongside minimal beauty and glowing skin, that purple blush would be making an appearance? Because it will! The TikTok trends of lavender, violet, and plum blush seem to have taken hold.
Sustainability
This is an emerging trend in many sectors, and we are glad to hear it. A focus on cruelty-free, refillable, and environmentally safe beauty products will follow us into 2022.
Just Like Neon
For the wilder ones, the neon trend is sticking around. Think solid, highly pigmented colors applied as liner, shadow, or on brows.
Glossy
Those of us who lived through the 90s and 2000s well remember the lip gloss trend that is now making its appearance on runways and social media accounts all over the world. Yay for hair stuck to our lips!
Stick It
Stickers and tattoo transfers, a la Euphoria, are back. There’s a sense of playfulness that trends like this carry along with them, which many people need after a truly dreadful few years.
Wrap Up
A trend is a trend because a lot of people like it, but you can use a trend any way you want. Put your own unique spin on these trends and walk into 2022 looking fabulous.
