A new month means a new slew of the Toronto’s best events. With April’s anticipated spring weather in full bloom, here are Vv Magazine’s Top 10 Toronto Events: April Edition to inspire you to get out and live a little…
Toronto Dumpling + Sake Fest
If you know where all the best har gau and shu mai hotspots are, then the Toronto Dumpling + Sake Fest will be right up your alley. Be sure to take April 9 off work and start prepping your stomach for some of the city’s finest Asian small plates. The battle for the title of “Best Dumplings” will be taking place at Propeller Coffee Co., with tickets for the event including samples from the chefs as well as sake tastings.
Alexander Wang Take Over At Jonathan + Olivia
Want to hang out with your Wang out? Addicts of the NYC designer need to mark April 9 in their calendar A-freaking-SAP because your favourite contemporary brand will be totally taking over Ossington’s Jonathan+Olivia boutique. You’ll be able to shop the new S/S 2015 collection and the recently launched Denim X Alexander Wang. In addition, visitors can preview pre-F/W 2015 pieces and check out a “Sneaker Head” installation, inspired by the sneaker iconography of Wang’s S/S 2015 collection.
Toronto Food & Drink Market
Indulge your palette at the Toronto Food and Drink Market, taking place from April 10-12 at the Direct Energy Centre in Exhibition Place. Browse the Farmers Market, peruse the food trucks, or take a master class and learn how to cook like a pro. Want to make a grand ol’ time of it? Bring the whole family as there are fun and interesting events taking place all weekend long.
In an epic battle for the title of “Best Burger”, Chef Vittorio Colacitti (The Good Son) will go head-to-head with Chef Matt Basile (Lisa Marie/Fidel Gastro’s). Taking place at 11pm on April 15 at the Good Son (1096 Queen Street West), this burger brawl will be an epic showdown between two takes on an American classic. Tickets are $15.00 in advance or $20.00 at the door.
Miss Winterlicious? Can’t possibly wait for Summerlicious? Celebrate the launch of patio season in the meantime at Marketlicious! Running from April 16-30, mouth-watering Market Street restaurants such as Barsa Taberna, Bindia, Market Street Catch, Evolution Food Co, and Pastizza will be offering pre-set lunch menus highlighting their top dishes.
Love Art Fair
Discover new art, take part in hands-on workshops, enjoy live talks, and meet fellow art lovers at the Love Art Fair. You might just end up being the next biggest art collector in the city. Or an eccentric art hoarder. It’s a fine line and we’re not sure which is more fabulous, TBH.
It’s officially wedding season and if you’re a bride-to-be or an aspiring bridezilla, this is the event for you. Bride on a budget? ReBash Toronto is full of DIYs and rustic-themed products, featuring handcrafted and gently-used wedding décor.
Farmer’s Almanac Dinner
On April 20, six of Toronto’s top chefs, six local farmers, and six Ontario beverage producers will be coming together in support of The Stop Community Food Centre. What could unite so much homegrown talent under one roof? This culinary A-Team will be uniting for a farmer’s almanac-themed six-course celebration of Ontario that will be donating proceeds from the dinner and raise awareness for The Stop, a not-for-profit organization geared toward healthy and sustainable living.
Toronto Festival Of Beer
Is it possible not to like beer? If your best bud is some brew, be sure to hit up the Toronto Festival of Beer from April 24-25. You’ll be treated to beer samplings from 15 different brew companies. Just a small tip: before the festival, hit up your favourite restaurant and line your stomachs for your booze-filled day. Like bread/pizza/shawarma/whatever.
Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival
April 23-May 3
Docu-buffs take note! If you’re tired of Netflix judging you with that smarmy pause function every two hours, you can take part in this year’s Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival and indulge in over 200 documentaries from around the globe — and away from your laptop.
