This week we celebrate Cabernet, the red grape that many of us love and adore. Did you know that Cabernet Franc is the father grape to Cabernet Sauvignon? That’s right! Sauvignon Blanc (the mother) and Cabernet Franc (the father) genetically crossed to make Cabernet Sauvignon (hence it’s named after both its mother and father).
Cabernet is planted all around the world and has many admirers. This week as we celebrate International Cabernet Day, pick up a bottle and give thanks for this wonderful father and son duo that is not only classic, but delicious!
Zaphy Organic Cabernet Sauvignon
Made from 100% organic grapes from the well known Mendoza region. Filled with black plum, spice, floral notes, leather and black olive – talk about diverse and awesome at the same time! Not to mention it’s organic, making it a gold medal winner in my books!
Intrinsic Cabernet Sauvignon 2017
An edgy label, followed by a fragrant, lovable and delicious red wine from Washington State. Half the wine is aged for nine months on skins for smooth and soft tannins. This wine is a blend of 96% cabernet sauvignon and 4% cabernet franc.
Bonterra Organic Cabernet Sauvignon
A great choice from California, Bonterra has been one of my favourite go-to Cali cabs for years and years. A talented winemaker who also likes to farm bio-dynamically and his wines are meant for super tasters!
Seven Falls Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
Another fantastic choice wine from Washington State. Smooth and decadent this wine is great with end of summer BBQ’s and grab a few bottles to have on hand for cooler nights into the fall to pair with your favourite pizza delivery.
Vineland Cabernet Franc VQA
A wine close to my heart, this Cabernet Franc is made by Winemaking legend Allan Schmidt. Berries are optically sorted for a Cabernet that is destined to be your house wine for life, just like me! LOL.
Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon
Head to the high elevations vineyards of Argentina and you’ll find wines of elegance and beauty. This is a wonderful bottle you’re bound to fall for and don’t be greedy, try to share it if you can!
