Almost all celebrities are Renaissance men and women; they act! They sing! They design! Infuriatingly, most are quite skilled and talented in all their endeavours, even if it’s simply a side project. I partially chalk this up to their unlimited funds, giving them access to the best in the biz (whatever biz that is they’re dipping their toe in), and also, yes, partly because they are creatively talented folk. When it comes to creative collaborations, celebrity scents are one of the most personal and accessible, meaning getting a real piece of that celebrity is as easy as simply spritzing away. Here are the top ten of 2013.
Katy Perry – Killer Queen
Perry’s third scent is her dearest thus far: named after the woman she is inspired to be, a ‘Killer Queen’, as painted by Freddie Mercury’s lyrics of the same song title. She “seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in,” Perry explained in an interview with WWD. The fragrance transports those qualities with notes of deep, sexy wild berries and black plum, flirty jasmine and seductive cashmere and patchouli.

Jay Z – Gold
The rapper’s first fragrance, Gold, is an unexpectedly quiet and sophisticated scent that has a unique and fresh quality. Lighter notes like grapefruit, ginger and blueberry play very well with headier notes like cardamom, vetiver and amber. Balanced out by pink pepper, vanilla, and teak, this cologne is good as gold.
Beyoncé – Heat, The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour Limited Edition
Mrs. Jay Z debuted a new scent this year too, although hers is a twist on an original – her very popular perfume, Heat, got a fruity, floral makeover. Brighter than the first, the limited edition features delicious mangosteen and acai berry notes, flowery orchid, violet and jasmines notes and is brought all together with vanilla and sandalwood.
Dita Von Teese – Erotique
If anyone can make a scent, name it Erotique and have it result in an intriguing and highly anticipated debut, it’s definitely seductress extraordinaire Dita Von Teese. Sophisticated and heady, this woody and floral fragrance boasts rich notes such as leather, musk, sandalwood and cedar with lighter notes of rose and incense to create a balanced, sexy scent.
Halle Berry – Exotic Jasmine
She’s no amateur when it comes to creating scents: Exotic Jasmine is Berry’s sixth fragrance, and it seems that practice makes perfect for the star. Fruity, floral and truly yummy, the scent features notes of raspberry, water lily, violet and vanilla, capturing an exotic feel with just one spritz.
