Tora Restaurant opened in January in Yorkdale Shopping Centre and offers a wide selection of quality sushi in a luxe atmosphere. Since its sister restaurant, Miku, opened in downtown Toronto in 2015, people have flocked to this spot known for its creative and fancy take on Japanese. Here’s the vibe inside the new sushi hotspot in Toronto.
Tora Restaurant has classed-up the typical automated sushi experience. They have 120 dishes on their menu, all with fresh quality ingredients. The main dining room has iPads on the tables so you don’t have to interact with any real people to get the food you want. Then the automated laneway delivers your food right to you. Easy as that! They also have a lounge that offers a full-service experience in case you prefer to order your food the old-fashioned way.
The Eats
All the sushi from Tora’s is made with intensely flavourful shari rice. This reddish-brown rice is seasoned with red sake vinegar to get a richer flavour that matches the fresh seafood. They have everything you could ever dream of in the sushi world from their signature aburi-style, pressed and blow-torched oshi nigiri to a new line of edomae-style nigiri dishes, many hot and cold items, plus gourmet desserts.

Executive Chef Kazuya Matsuoka’s goal was to bring the automated sushi-style restaurants to Toronto but maintain quality service, atmosphere, and food. With ultra-fresh fish, most of it imported straight from the source in Japan, and flavourful rice, this place is going to be big for sushi-lovers. Tora also offers non-sushi dishes for those that still want to experience Tora’s atmosphere and vibe. Click here to check out their extensive menu!
The Looks
Tora is aiming for a more high-end feel with their modern and minimalist design. The dining room is classy and moody, creating the perfect dinner setting for dining out. With the iPad on the table and the conveyor belt right next to you, dining is made easy at Tora. The lounge is full-service and is a bit smaller but has an airy and open feel with its floor-to-ceiling windows.
