If you’ve heard about the cronut craze (the croissant/donut hybrid) in New York already, then you’re well aware that the donut trend is going nowhere, and we couldn’t be more thankful. It’s somehow fulfilling to bite into a Boston Creme and think to yourself, “I’m so trendy right now.”
As patriotic Canadians, Tim Hortons rocks our world, so when the Food Network Canada’s Donut Showdown had a donut throwdown – a do-down, if you will – in a competition to create a new Tim Hortons donut, we totally lost our Timbits! The winning donut, the Apple Cobbler, has now been added to the Tim Hortons menu. Customers can get their hands on the cobbler, along with a small coffee, at a special introductory price of $1.99.
Toronto-area executive chef Trista Sheen created the Apple Cobbler donut, which is a bloom donut dipped in vanilla fondant, with a spiced apple filling, topped off with cobbler crumbs. Sheen also took home another kind of dough: a $10,000 cash prize courtesy of Tim Hortons. Now that’s a hefty dough-nut! We’ll see you at Timmy Ho’s!
