Can you imagine venturing out of your home to grab a late night bag of chips only to discover the store is sold out!? A tragedy! Well, this has been the reality for many Torontonians recently and people are NOT happy about it. How can you entertain guests, watch a movie or eat your sorrows without a bag of Lays or Doritos?

Toronto is Experiencing a Chip Shortage
If you’ve been craving some Doritos, sun chips or Lays recently, you may have been greeted by empty shelves. It’s serving major March 2020 toilet paper vibes, I know but don’t worry- there’s an explanation. Apparently, Frito-Lay Canada is withholding product shipments to all stores owned by Loblaw Companies Ltd. due to “a dispute over price hikes” that experts are calling “an extreme example of how inflation is impacting the food industry.” Which means that you probably will have some difficulty finding chips at Loblaws, No Frills, Shoppers Drug Mart, T&T, Zehrs and other Loblaws-owned stores.
While Loblaws says they are committed to minimizing retail price increases, Frito-Lay has had to make price adjustments to offset increasing costs. People took to twitter over the feud and have been picking sides.
Loblaw's must resist this blatant aggression by Frito-Lay. Defensive Pringles are being deployed but the snacking community must unite against this a salt–sorry, assault–on our wallets. https://t.co/0llDDvlE5I

One user raised the point that we don’t need Lays when we have small chip producers to support instead!

This user thinks it’s time for someone to finally stand up to bullies (aka…Loblaws??)
Good for someone (Frito Lay in this case) to stand up to Loblaws and their bully tactics. https://t.co/71xUTOsNqc

Now this user is ready to fight!
Frito-Lay's chips aren't so good that I'm going to buy them at extortionate inflationary prices. Actually, their chips have kind of sucked for a good while. I'm with Loblaws on this one.

This user may have a point…#fullofair

So, who will win this war? Only time will tell but in the meantime we can continue purchasing chips from other stores or supporting small chip brands at Loblaws!
