I am the first to admit that when it comes to vintage shopping I have never really been the biggest fan. Lack of merchandising and the smell of mothballs tend to dampen my desire to shop, and I find myself drifting to the all too familiar high-street havens where corporate categorizing makes it oh-so-easy for me to spend my funds on this season’s ‘must-have’ trends. Naturally, this results in my becoming just one of many wearing the same trend at the same party… #fashionfail. Luckily for us Torontonians, there are a slew of stores throughout the city offering vintage wears that are dry-cleaned and hung on organized racks and not in overwhelming, messy piles. Inventing your own unique style by combining new and used pieces makes for some serious fashion fun, and ensures that you always stand out from the crowd. Check out our fave vintage picks to help make your style your own…

I Miss You Vintage
I happened upon this store after a wine-fuelled lunch with a girlfriend on Ossington – and what’s better than a little buzzed shopping? Everything is beautifully merchandised with designer shoes on display and beautiful jewellery in glass cases just calling to be taken home. And aside from vintage goodies there are many more up-to-date designer offerings. My lunch date bagged her first pair of Louboutins, saving a good few hundred dollars – proving that drunk shopping is always a good idea!
Penny Arcade Vintage
This space is lovingly put together and provides a warm and welcoming environment with tons of character. The racks are neat and organized, taking away the daunting hunt that some vintage stores require. And there are even comfy sofas allowing you to take a load off and soak in the inspiration.
Public Butter
This Parkdale gem has it all going on, including vintage clothing, accessories, and furnishings surrounded by local art for your viewing pleasure. The huge space is jam-packed with retro goodies, all reasonably priced, providing you with the perfect place to waste some time and pick up some one-offs after Sunday brunch in the ‘hood.

Gadabout
You’re unlikely to find anything here from after the 1980s because, as Gadabout rightfully point out on its website, that’s not vintage yet. These four walls are packed with retro offerings within an environment that is more typical of its kind… creative chaos! If you enjoy digging for your treasure you might want to clear your day for a visit here.
