With Father’s Day fast approaching, there are plenty of activities going on at the 6ix. One of them will be the Street Eats Market, taking place at Yorkdale Shopping Centre (North Parking Lot) on June 19th and 20th from 12 pm to 8 pm. It is the first and currently only event approved to function in Ontario. 100% of the donated proceeds going to Baycrest Hospital on behalf of Yorkdale Shopping Centre and Street Eats Market.
Customers can pre-order their items online with scheduled pick-ups. There are limited time slots available in 15-minute windows, which will prevent people from forming lines. The entire concept is contactless and outdoors, keeping in mind the social distancing measures. The website is set to launch on June 15th, after which customers can book their selected time slots ahead of the Father’s Day weekend.
The concept came to life through liaisons with multiple regional public health teams and it helped in getting food trucks approved in the City of Toronto. All precautionary measures have been taken by the market such as vendors being 30 feet apart from one another, thorough disinfection of surfaces and screening of the staff for COVID-19 symptoms.

The orders are to be placed and paid online per vendor. After selecting the time slot for pick-up, the license plate number of the vehicle used for pickup must be entered. The location and lane number for pickup will be provided on each receipt. All completed orders will be placed on a high table next to vehicles for pickup. Eating on the premise is currently not allowed and neither are gatherings or tailgate parties.
The first event will feature popular food trucks like Eva’s Original Chimney, Jerk Brothers, Choco Churros, Meltwich, The Holy Grill, Johnny Rocco’s Pizza Wagon, and more. The event will also be popping up in Kitchener, Oshawa and Newmarket as each region enters into Phase 2 of reopening the economy.
