As a dedicated and shameless Anglophile, part of my regular online retail therapy routine includes a pilgrimage to the Topman website. Though the male version of Topshop is available now in certain The Bay locations, I still find the UK online store to have a wider, more edgy selection that better showcases the brand’s Brit street-style vibe. In a nod towards sportswear, the latest trend they are pushing this season is the cuffed trouser. Worn loose around the leg and tapering down towards the ankle to an elasticized cuff, the pants come with looped waist and drawstring options. The “urban” meets “sports” look feels very on-trend with a pair of colourful sneakers, a raglan pullover and a flashy cap. Varying from lightweight cotton to heavier drill material, they are also a liberating alternative for gentleman tired of the clingy prisons known as skinny jeans. While many of the cuffed trousers are of the more casual, jogger variety, there is also the Black Cuffed Skinny Chino for the more daring of fashionistos and denim-look jersey joggers that I would lovingly refer to as male jeggings. Check out Topman’s promo video for the cuffed trouser here to really get a feel for the line’s urban music, sporty roots.
