For a city perched on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver has, for the longest time, come up curiously short on Western seafood restaurants offering simply cooked fish.
Don’t get us wrong: there is no lack of Asian-fusion fine dining venues where one can slurp miso-sake-glazed sablefish to their heart’s content (almost every Vancouver restaurant offers a version) or be wowed by richly buttered scallops caramelized with candied ginger and citrus sauces.
But where does one find a good old-fashioned crab boil or lightly grilled halibut salad?
The options are definitely getting better. A couple of new value-conscious restaurants have come to the rescue, while others have simplified their menus to better reflect the light, nutrient-dense, heart-healthy dishes that locals crave and visitors expect from a destination seaport.
