Spring is a magical time in Paris: Love is in the air, flowers are exploding with brilliant colours, and the sunny cafe terraces are overflowing with people sipping on espresso and nibbling on decadent French pastries. C’est magnifique!
Perhaps it was these very things that made Jackie Kai Ellis, of Vancouver’s Beaucoup Bakery & Cafe, fall in love with the city of lights as she studied at the renowned École Gastronomique Bellouet Conseil.
Jackie continues to embrace her love of Paris by serving exquisite French-inspired treats at her popular bakery, and now she’s leading intimate groups on walking tours of the city’s legendary pastry houses and chocolatiers – sharing the inspiration that led to the opening of Beaucoup.
Aptly named The Paris Tours, these guided tastebud experiences will be hosted several times a year, with the first during Jackie’s May 15th to 25th trip. During each culinary excursion, six pastry lovers will be guided by Jackie as she shows off what she considers the best that Paris has to offer, from traditional iterations of classic pastries to cutting-edge versions, regional specialties, and modern takes on standards. She’ll share what each place is known for, what’s worth trying, and what they do best. La pièce de résistance, to us, has to be the grand tasting event at the end of the tour, where participants dig into goodies from the visited establishments. Our mouths are watering just dreaming about it!
Ah, Paris in the springtime…
