We’re all about sharing news with readers about upcoming, locally-based events geared toward helping out a great cause. Now, throw the idea of dining out around town at some of Vancouver’s best new restaurants in order to do so and, well, you’ve got our attention.
What could be better than teaching children that there’s more to life that fast food? Growing Chefs! does just that. The Vancouver-based non-profit’s Classroom Gardening Program educates children about urban agriculture, local food, healthy cooking, and proper nutrition by facilitating hands-on growing experiences with local chefs.
To help raise money and keep this important program going (and growing), local restaurants – such as The Acorn, Fable, Homer St. Cafe, and Maenam – are showing their support for the entire month of June by adding $1 to a popular dish on their menu. With a fundraising goal of $10,000 this year, these dollars go directly to fund the Classroom Gardening Program and keep more than 1,000 kids growing, harvesting, and tasting a variety of organic and delicious greens. C’mon foodies, show your support and dine out in June!
