When we stumbled upon a savoury and sweet sounding event taking place this week at Granville Island’s Edible Canada, our interest (and tastebuds) were piqued. Why, you might wonder? Well, the event itself is titled “Naked Chocolate,” and it features Afke Zonderland of Foods Alive as chef for the next Guest Chef Market Dinner series on April 10th.
As part of this upcoming dinner, attendees can expect to see Afke’s passion for gourmet vegetarian and minimally processed edibles unleashed for an unforgettable ‘naked’ meal.
Afke has been hosting her own Raw Food Dinners since 2009 in the Okanagan, drawing from her own steady supply of BC-grown produce to wow guests. Ever since exchanging her creative talents as a kitchen designer for those that come with a chef’s jacket, she has fulfilled a longstanding passion for healthy gourmet vegetarian food – with an emphasis on raw eating.
Afke has continually wowed palates with her Fresh, Living Food workshops and dinners – and we’re kind of excited to see what’s in store for Thursday night’s event at Edible Canada. (Take a look at some of the recipes on her website to see for yourself.) Chef Afke will prepare her take on quality raw eats in the form of a multi-course seasonal meal made in Edible Canada’s test kitchen and served in their custom designed private room. Expect to be wowed as you taste your way through your raw-food dinner, sipping a selection of sommelier-chosen Canadian wine, craft beer and spirit pairings along the way.
