You may never look at gyozas the same way again after Gyoza Bar officially opens early next month. Owned and operated by Seigo Nakamura (of Miku/Minami fame), Gyoza Bar is set to introduce its own tasty take on these bite-sized savoury gems.
It’s a new teppan-style eatery that’ll open up at 622 West Pender Street with a culinary team led by Chef Kazuya Matsuoka, Chef de Cuisine Michael Acero, and GM Nicola Turner.
Expect to see a variety of different gyozas available to order – starting with their signature Teppan Pork. Teppan cooking involves an ancient Japanese technique using ‘imono’ cast iron pans – these ensure the delivery of extra hot, savoury, juicy and crispy gyoza.
Complimenting the assortment of gyoza offerings, the menu will also feature house-made classic ramen dishes with a unique twist: a tomato-saffron seafood broth. Tomato base has become increasingly popular in Japanese restaurants, so Matsuoka has opted to introduce the craze to this Canadian location.
Also featured will be handheld sandwiches, fresh salads, an assortment of Japanese small plates, and dessert fare to keep you satiated. Rounding out the list will be a selection of sakes, craft beers on-tap, and specially chosen wines that work with this distinct style of cooking.
At around 2,600-square-feet, Gyoza Bar will hold 80 seats with décor invoking a melding of urban chic with a modern/rustic feel throughout.
