If you haven’t already paid Vancouver’s newest little bakery a visit, you really ought to get on it – your tastebuds will thank you for it. Sweet Bake Shop is a boutique bakery nestled in the heart of Vancouver’s historic Yaletown neighbourhood and recently hosted a bevy of fans for their official opening party. We popped by to check it out and were totally impressed.
Offering a selection of delicious cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other sweets daily, Sweet Bake Shop is the brainchild of owner Tessa Sam who fell out of love with her job in radio broadcasting and opted to pursue a sweeter road to satisfaction in 2010. Her love of baking translated to the launch of Sweet Bake Shop, which at the time she ran from her own home kitchen.
After taking time off to attend a variety of baking and decorating courses, including the Peggy Porschen Academy in London, England, by 2013 Sweet Bake Shop had gained significant popularity, and by early 2014 Tessa decided it was time to move her successful home-run business to a storefront location (now found at 1141 Mainland Street).
There was already a packed house of hungry guests when we checked out the space recently. We took in the playful scene as we sampled our way through a variety of custom-made cupcakes, sugar cookies, and refreshments.
Punches of playful prints and plenty of pink décor envelopes the space, which also features a large chandelier constructed of cleverly painted whisks – a great nod to the baking craft.
In addition to baked goods and custom orders of cakes for all occasions, Sweet Bake Shop features unique gift ideas, clever party favours and more – and is sure to be a hit in the already-bustling area.
Check out the daily offerings at the store by following them on Instagram, and pop on over for your sugar-fix!
