Vancouver is truly a dog lover’s utopia. Everywhere you go you’re bound to bump into at least three pooches out for a stroll with their owners. Walking the dog doesn’t have to be a boring chore, so don’t just circle the block like a zombie. Show your fur-baby how in love you are by venturing out a little.
Vancouver has numerous on-leash trails, off-leash parks and beaches that your pup will be excited to explore with you. Here are some of the best places to walk your dog in Vancouver…
Located next to ‘Kits’ beach just below Ogden Avenue, Hadden Dog Park is a huge hit with all of the local four-legged furry friends. Dogs of all sizes run freely along the sand and enjoy taking a dip in the chilly water, or gnawing on driftwood. Off-leash hours are 6am to 10am and 5pm to 10pm from May 1st to September 30th, and 6pm to 10pm from October 1st to April 30th.
The grass bowl of Charleson Park is the perfect spot to play fetch with your pooch or let them meet and mingle with their pup playmates. Dogs are allowed off-leash in this area before 10am and after 5pm, year round.
The waterfront Ambleside Park is among the most sociable gathering places on the North Shore. Locals come to stretch their legs and exercise their dogs. Although Ambleside Park isn’t an off-leash area, this walk is a must-do for dog owners. Ambleside Park is easily reached from numerous entrances along Marine Drive, including the south end of Taylor Way, the first major intersection west of the Lions Gate Bridge.
One of our fave spots to walk our dogs is Jericho Beach. Though this stretch is an on-leash zone, the stroll from Jericho Beach to Spanish Banks offers picturesque seascapes and a plethora of pooches for your fluffy companion to make friends with. You can find Jericho Beach at the west end of Point Grey Rd., between Wallace and Discovery Streets.
