Who doesn’t have a soft spot for the hopelessly romantic, pretty in pink, sharp-as-a-whip Elle Woods, who out of sheer determination and a great pair of heels, concurs Harvard Law School to win her ex-boyfriend back? Anyone who has contemplated calling their dog Bruiser, owns a plethora of pink outfits, or knows the classic “bend and snap” technique (works like a charm), should scurry their little behinds over to Theatre Under the Stars at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park, where Legally Blonde: The Musical is playing until August 23rd!
Director and Choreographer Valerie Easton takes us on a musical montage from the sorority house to the law courts. Jocelyn Gauthier shines as the blonde-bombshell-with-a-brain Elle Woods (we had to squint to notice the difference between her and Ms. Witherspoon), a hilariously goofy Scott Walters plays Emmett (Elle’s soon-to-be love interest), and Peter Cumins steps into the character of Warner the Ex with ease and a frat boy grace all his own (Warning: Many Polo shirts were abused in the making of this musical).
As the sun set over the beautifully scenic Stanley Park, we sipped on wine and reminisced about the simple days when platinum blonde was a regular request at the local salon, fluffy pink pens were considered all the rage in the classroom, and a little chihuahua named Bruiser melted our hearts. Don’t miss Legally Blonde: The Musical – it will leave you in stitches, humming to the tunes of slutty sorority sisters, and perhaps even contemplating law school. Bend and snap to it!
