Our inbox is stacked-full of plenty of reasons to get out and explore the city in the coming weeks. After a bit of sifting, we’ve rounded up a few choice picks we think you ought to plug into your calendar for this weekend and beyond. Here’s your weekly edition of What’s On in Vancouver…
Check out the Red Bull Illume Festival that kicks off this Friday at Jack Poole Plaza by Vancouver’s Convention Centre. It’s what pro action sports photographers live for and will feature the most stunning collection of top 50 images captured at events around the world. They’ll all be accessible on outdoor displays every night at dusk and feature the work of some of Canada’s most talented photographers. Added bonus: It’s free!
Celebrate Chinese New Year and the Year of the Horse this Sunday at the Vancouver Chinatown Spring Festival. Catch all the action at a colourful parade as it makes its way through Chinatown. See live performances, Dragon and Lion Dancers, try your hand at Chinese games, and participate in a ceremonial tea drinking service. The parade gets going at 11am by the Millennium Gate and heads toward Columbia.
Quit blushing! We know you’re curious about this weekend’s Taboo Naughty But Nice Sex Show. It’s an upscale adult playground that’s got everything you could possibly ever dream of – and more. Check out entertainment, provocative and educational seminars guaranteed to turn up the heat at home, live demos (whoa!) and fashion shows… as well as a chance to do a little bit of shopping for whatever tickles your fancy… or that of your partner.
Add a little culture to the mix and nab tickets to attend the Royal Winnipeg Ballet‘s rendition of Shakespeare’s classic tale of star-crossed lovers: Romeo and Juliet. It’s a limited engagement set to strut its way into the Queen Elizabeth Theatre – choreographed by Rudi Van Dantzig featuring the music of Sergi Prokofiev. You’ll be brought to the edge of your seat – guaranteed. It runs until February 1st so don’t miss out.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: This is your last call for Dine Out Vancouver Festival. It all comes to a close this Sunday, so don’t delay and book yourself into one of the 260+ restaurants around Vancouver participating. On a budget? No problem! Three course dinners are available running from $18 to $38. In addition, there are still plenty of off-site events happening as part of Dine Out – so check the listings online before it’s too late.
Catch the Super Bowl this Sunday at The Rio Theatre. They’ll be broadcasting the game live on their massive screen, complete with beer specials, a shooter girl, raffle, door prizes, and the Tacofino Food Truck on-site to keep you properly fed. Tickets are only $5 with partial proceeds going to a local charity. Dress in Seahawks gear (or root for the Broncos if you dare). Whatever your choice, it’s guaranteed to be quite the party.
