Summertime is synonymous with celebrating the outdoors, camping, barbecuing, kicking back with a brew, and catching an endless array of live music (and likely a bit of a sunburn while you’re at it). This summer, there’s quite the line up of music festivals taking place around the province – and we’ve got the scoop on at least three we think you need to add to your calendar… pronto!
Keloha Music and Arts Festival
This festival takes over the sunny waterfront shores of Lake Okanagan in Kelowna later this summer (July 11th to 13th), and we’re definitely going to schedule in some time off to attend. Back for it’s third year, this festival, produced by Wet Ape Productions, is one you won’t want to miss and all but transforms the stage into an island-style escape – complete with tiki torches, lakeside lounge beverage gardens, palm trees, and a stellar lineup of musicians worth tuning into. Catch headlining acts The Naked and Famous, Local Natives, Sky Ferreira, Kongos, St. Lucia, The Mowgli’s, Terraplane Sun, Hey Ocean!, Blondfire, The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, Jon and Roy, and many more.
As if the music isn’t enough to make you happy, Keloha is all about summer fun and all the activities that go along with it. Think a sandcastle building competition, multi-venue after party series, and an interactive artistic component titled Art Ave. that is acting as the festival’s creative hub this summer. Tickets go on sale this Thursday, May 15th with special 3-day passes starting at $99, or score the 3-day Platinum passes for $199 and get exclusive access.
Pemberton Music Festival
Next up and taking place from July 18th to 20th, the Pemberton Music Festival is coming back to BC and it’s bringing a stellar lineup of global grooves to several stages. Surrounded by a stunning backdrop of sweeping farmland and majestic mountain, the Pemberton Music Festival is a three-day music extravaganza that offers camping and traditional lodging to ensure concert-goers are comfy. Really, it’s a festival experience unlike any other.
You’ll want to grab a group of friends and leave the world behind and make the trek up the Sea-to-Sky just past Whistler where you’ll catch acts like Nine Inch Nails, Empire Of The Sun, Blondie, Matthew Good, TV on the Radio, Modest Mouse, Snoop Dogg, DeadMau5, Soundgarden, The Flaming Lips, OutKast, Sloan, Hayden, and many more. Add to this a stage full of comedians like Lisa Lampanelli, Bob Saget, Trailer Park Boys, Tom Green, and Doug Benson. Tickets can be purchased here, but don’t wait as prices will go up soon.
Squamish Valley Music Festival
Squamish Valley Music Festival is back (August 8th to 10th) and taking over the picturesque town framed by ocean and the surrounding mountains – we’ve been before, believe us when we say it is stunning. Kicking things off this year is headliners Bruno Mars, Arcade Fire, and Eminem – yeah, for real! Can we say, pumped! In addition, catch Serena Ryder, Tokyo Police Club, Foster The People, The Roots, The Temper Trap, Thievery Corporation, Lykki Li, The Arctic Monkeys, plus a load of other amazing artists on various stages. All told, more than 70 different artists are set to entertain throughout the weekend… so pack up for the long haul and score your tickets now (camping is still available as they’ve added two additional campgrounds for this year).
Tier one and pre-sale tickets are already sold out, but you can still nab tier two (regular) and VIP (tier two) here.
