Who said September signals that all fun things must come to an end? This weekend, around Vancouver, definitely proves otherwise, according to the latest crop of events we found. Start off by checking out a few new spots that recently opened downtown and be sure to bring your appetite…
Bella Gelateria
Check out the new Bella Gelateria located in Yaletown at Marinaside. It’s not just gelato anymore thanks to a full redesign of the space, expansive indoor and outdoor waterfront seating, and full dinner service featuring pizza and more. It’s one of the hottest tickets in the city – good luck scoring a table.
Gyoza Bar
Also newly opened (and just in time for the weekend) is Gyoza Bar. We wrote about it earlier this summer, but a few minor construction and permit glitches shifted things up a bit… but all good things come to those who wait, right? At 85 seats, you’ll love the décor and atmosphere almost as much as the tantalizingly good grub. Delve into a selection of Japanese small plates, sandwiches, specially prepared veggie and pork gyoza, and chase it all with a side of ramen and dose of sake.
Vancouver Latin Film Festival
This weekend is your last chance to check out the Vancouver Latin Film Festival. If you haven’t already caught a few flicks, we recommend doing so. This year’s featured country is Chile and the festival’s cinematic offerings always score big.
5th Annual Luxury & Supercar Weekend
In case you didn’t catch our post earlier this week outlining reasons to head to the 5th Annual Luxury & Supercar Weekend – well, what’s stopping you, really? The weather’s looking perfect for one last garden party and this one pretty much takes the cake. For $50 you’ll gain entry to the stunning VanDusen Botanical Gardens for a day of mingling, people watching, drinking, eating and drooling (over all the fancy automobiles on display).
Zombie Walk
If your mind is already a month or so ahead and you’ve been planning for Halloween (or the season premiere of the Walking Dead), this Saturday might just be the perfect outlet for you. It’s all about zombies as the annual Zombie Walk is set to take the city streets by storm. Join in the fun, ghoul yourself up, and watch as people wonder exactly what is going on (that’s half the fun).
Grind Challenge
After what seems like a weekend of indulgence, perhaps you ought to reserve a bit of energy on Sunday to hit the Grind as part of the Grind Challenge. For $35 you can enter day-of and hit the trail alongside about a thousand other entrants as you race your way up Mother Nature’s Stairmaster from Hell. Funds raised go to BC Children’s Hospital and there will be entertainment, free yoga, food, and more at the top to sweeten the pain.
