Whether it’s a trip to one of the local markets for a bit of fresh fare, live music, and mingling, or perhaps some fashion at Vancouver Fashion Week – there’s plenty going on to keep you occupied this weekend. Check out our list of top picks and start planning…
IL MERCATO
IL MERCATO (the Italian Night Market) is back this Friday and definitely worth heading to after work so you can scoop up plenty of tasty bites to last you all weekend long. Twilight Market
We’re big fans of heading over to the North Shore to the Twilight Market at the Shipyards – and this Friday night is no different. With more than 15 food trucks, a beer garden (with Deep Cove Lager, Bettie’s Vodka, and Okanagan Cider on tap), live music, and shopping to be done thanks to 50 local vendors, it’s certainly the place to be.
Vancouver Fashion Week
This is your last weekend to check out one of the many international and local designers making stylish waves at Vancouver Fashion Week. Make your way down to the big white tent at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza (you can’t miss it) and catch a show. They’ve got some incredible talent on-hand from close-to-home and around the world. See designs by Nikki Babie, Lubov Tumanova, Karen Yang, Oscar Mendoza, Ocksa, and many more.
Swallow Tail Secret Supper Club
If you can, nab a spot at Swallow Tail Secret Supper Club’s event this Saturday at La Mezcaleria. These dinners always sell out, so don’t wait. Join Swallow Tail Secret Supper Club with Chef Ignacio Arrieta (La Taqueria/La Mezcaleria) for a multi-course meal and agua fresca to help raise funds for the Angela Fama (a stellar local photographer) community Kickstarter campaign, “Wabisabi Butterfly/What is Love.”
Oktoberfest
Can’t make it to the above dinner? No problem. Save your Saturday night for Oktoberfest courtesy of Steam Whistle Brewing. The party goes down at Imperial on Main Street and is the perfect excuse to dress up in your best dirndl attire and get ready to guzzle. Things get rolling at 8pm, and you can find tickets and learn more here.

2nd Story: Blood Alley
Throw a little culture into the mix this Sunday and check out 2nd Story: Blood Alley. It’s an afternoon of community-geared storytelling adapted to video and it features historic personal accounts from Gastown’s Blood Alley. Through a downloadable app you’ll hear stories from and about the area known as Blood Alley in Vancouver’s downtown east-side. The area has been chosen for its long, often constructed, history, and as a microcosmic example of a neighborhood in transition.
Cocktail Art!
Also taking place Sunday (night), Cocktail Art! returns for one stellar night of, you guessed it… cocktails. Join industry, media, and VIPs and experience the finest in unique drinks, live entertainment, and superb design at a one-of-a-kind fantasy cocktail bar. It’s on for one night only and benefits a great cause, the Dr. Peter Aids Foundation, and is the precursor to next week’s Dinner By Design.
