We’re not sure about you, but Friday couldn’t come any sooner… and especially given the fact that it’s the Canada Day Long Weekend to boot! Whether you’re staying local or heading out of town to celebrate, the next few days are full of entertaining options, and we’ve rounded up a few you might want to note…
Jazz Fest
Jazz Fest takes place all over town with a variety of performances and world-class artists taking the stage for free! Head down to Granville Island’s Public Market Stage or grab your beach blanket and score a patch of grass at the David Lam Park for a series of outdoor evening performances. For full event listings, visit them online.
Farmers Markets
Don’t miss the local farmers markets that pop up throughout the weekend in Vancouver’s various neighbourhoods. Start off by heading over to Kitsilano or the West End to pick up freshly harvested items, and be sure to pop by both the Kerrisdale and Trout Lake markets too. For all the latest vendor info and market hours, check out the website.
Twilight Market
This weekend also boasts plenty of outdoor markets worth checking out. Start things off with a trip over to North Vancouver and take in the Twilight Market located by the Shipyards in Lower Lonsdale. This awesome outdoor market has quickly become a favourite given the fact they’ve got more than 15 different food trucks, live entertainment, 50 plus vendor stalls and a beer garden – all with a waterfront view and the cityscape as backdrop.
Comics on Comics
Don’t miss Comics on Comics presented by Hot Art Wet City. Vancouver comedians tear through old, awful and forgotten comic books at Hot Art Wet City. Hosted by Brent Constantine, the panel features Andrew MacLachlan, Brad Dorion, Stuart Jones, Alex Sparling, Shane McLean, and Warren Bates. Watch as they make fun of terrible comic books live on-stage. Score yourself a seat and watch the hilarity unfold for $10 ($5 in advance).
Sunset Beach Social
Head down to Sunset Beach and take out Friday’s Sunset Beach Social starting at 5pm until sundown. This annual event comes stocked with plenty of food trucks, live performances courtesy of colourful drag queens, a sandcastle building competition with $500 up for grabs, an art market curated by BLIM, and a roller disco. Definitely not to be missed!
Vancouver Urban Spaces Initiative
Put your dance shoes on this Sunday and make your way over to New Brighton to partake in the Vancouver Urban Spaces Initiative’s latest offering of fun times. The VSUI is all about pop-up parties, an eclectic mix of good people, groove-worthy tunes, and celebrating summer. Their latest Special Summer Series kicks off the first of a series of 5 sets of daytime dance parties with DJs, dancing, and discrete drinking. Party starts at 1pm and goes until late.
