Just like the buds seem to be blossoming in droves on trees and in gardens, Vancouver is seriously abuzz with spring happenings these days and that makes us very happy. This weekend is no exception, and offers up plenty to keep the days ahead packed…
Start with Friday’s FUSE at the VAG. This monthly event brings together the perfect balance of art (duh!), tunes (lots of local DJ talent), booze (yup, there’s a full service bar), and great opportunities to mingle the night away surrounded by conversation-starting works.
Looking for something a bit mellower with a side of creepy? Well then the Rio Theatre is definitely worth checking out. This Friday they are screening Japanese cult classic horror flick House. This throwback to the later 70s is a psychedelic tale that will have you on the edge of your seat. You know the drill: Head there, grab your seat, grab some grub and a beer, and enjoy the show. Save a few bucks by dressing in costume and you’re golden.
Speaking of screenings, we’d be remiss not to mention that this weekend there are plenty of those courtesy of the Projecting Change Film Festival that’s on until Sunday. This annual festival celebrates sustainable living in a cinematically-charged way we love, and offers up a global perspective with a showcase of talent from Australia (Red Obsession), Denmark (Maidentrip), Canada’s own Watermark, and plenty of parties and even an all-day yoga session to get you feeling limber.
Saturday, head to the Vancouver Winter Farmers Market to score sweet (and healthy) savings on locally sourced goods. We love the fact that they constantly rotate the list of vendors, which translates into an awesome variety of goods available for purchase; everything from baked goods, fresh roasted coffee, baked treats, poultry, seasonal veggies and fruit and handmade items for your home.
Do some good this Saturday and grab a garbage bag and plastic gloves and participate in the citywide Keep Vancouver Spectacular community clean-up, taking place along the streets and in laneways around the Fraser and Broadway neighbourhood. The community is invited back to the Mount Pleasant Community Centre for eats afterward, so be sure to work up an appetite.
If you are one, know one, dream of being one, or just like to play dress up, this Sunday is your chance to do just that at the Vancouver Bridal Swap taking place at the Yaletown Roundhouse all day. Bridal-minded ladies are invited to register and attend this popular event that sees hundreds of gently-used designer dresses, accessories, and other decorative items up for sale. Something old is definitely bound to be new again!
