Don’t let people tell you your 30s will be the best time of your life in a tone that suggests your looks will fade so you better find inner peace. Vicki’s Pick is a weekly beauty column that features Vicki’s all-time favourite beauty products and latest discoveries for women in their 30s who plan on staying pretty on the outside for a long, long time. Inner peace is optional.
It’s Pride Week here in Toronto, and it’s just any ol’ Pride – it’s World Pride! Forget double rainbows, you can see those any day on YouTube. Right now Toronto’s donning its very own amazing technicolour dreamcoat, and, unlike the emperor’s new clothes, you can actually see Toronto’s current multi-coloured beauty if you just believe in the power of Pride. Otherwise, it’s just another boring Wednesday today, right?
I wanted to review something extra Pride-worthy this week in honour of World Pride here in our own backyard, so instead of picking a product suitable for a specific type of skin or a lipstick colour that not everyone would wear, I opted for a unisex perfume that will make anyone – male, female, gay, straight, trans, bi, etc. – instantly feel more glamourous. LUSH Breath of God fragrance, from the brand’s Gorilla Perfume collection, was actually created by a LUSH perfumer named Simon after he visited Tibet and was inspired to make a perfume based on the fresh mountain air mixed with the smoky scents of the temples. The fragrance has invigorating citrus and melon notes, a spiciness that comes from neroli oil, as well as sandalwood and cedarwood undertones, so it’s definitely an uplifting fragrance – perfect for keeping up with the jam-packed calendar of activities that encompass World Pride Week. I’m a big fan of the 9mL spray tube ($15.95) because it fits perfectly in my purse for midday or mid-night touch-ups.
So go on out there and love who you want to love and live how you want to live and be a part of the gorgeousness that is World Pride’s amazing technicolour dreamcoat made up of locals and visitors alike. Whether you dazzle up your makeup routine this week with lots of glitter or go au naturel, you are beautiful when you feel free to just be you.
