Don’t let people tell you your 30s will be the best time of your life in a tone that suggests your looks will fade so you better find inner peace. Vicki’s Pick is a weekly beauty column that features Vicki’s all-time favourite beauty products and latest discoveries for women in their 30s who plan on staying pretty on the outside for a long, long time. Inner peace is optional.
The often controversial but always entertaining Gwyneth Paltrow once said, “Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.” Sure, we all know confidence is key to being beautiful, but red lipstick truly does go a long way – whether you’re already feeling seductive or just in the mood for an instant boost in sex appeal.
It seems appropriate, then, that Gwynnie’s good friend, Tom Ford, has one of the most perfect red lipsticks on the planet. Although always femme fatale-worthy in theory, red lipstick can go terribly wrong in the hands of a less than stellar beauty company, but the beloved American designer nails it with Tom Ford Lip Color Cherry Lush.
With just the right hint of pink, Tom Ford Cherry Lush lipstick is extremely opaque (one coat does the trick) and yet looks warm and kissable, and, thanks to the blue undertones, is suitable for any skin tone. You can blot it for a more toned-down daytime look, but the colour is so rich you might just be tempted to go cocktail-party bold before you’ve even ordered your morning coffee. The creamy texture of the lipstick (thanks to the soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter, and chamomile flower oil in its ingredient list) goes on smooth but doesn’t feel sticky. By the time your coffee cools down enough for your first sip, your lipstick will have dried just the right amount to keep your lid from becoming an accidental blotting pad. Go ahead… make small talk in the elevator. Morning rush hour never looked so good.
