Avenue Q first opened on Broadway in July of 2003. The show went on to win three Tony Awards in 2004, and now has productions showing all over the world. The coming-of-age story combines nostalgia with adult comedy, which may normally verge on offensive except (!) it’s coming from the mouths of furry puppets. It’s like a drunken Sesame Street.
The residents of Avenue Q will once again be moving in to the Lower Ossington Theatre as of June 20th. This will be the fifth run in Toronto, so they gotta be doing something right! We got the chance to meet a few of the stars of the show and the amazing actors who bring them to life. I think if I was a puppet, I would definitely be a Bad Idea Bear. They are huge advocates of spending all your money on beer and that doesn’t seem like such a bad idea to me…
Avenue Q opens on Thursday, June 20th. Tickets can be purchased online or at The Lower Ossington Theatre located at 100 Ossington Avenue.
