We can all agree that the Thanksgiving long weekend is awesome, right? For the next three days, it’s all about tucking into turkey with family and friends – but not before you get out and explore the city for a bit of fun and festivities.
Work up your appetite and check out a handful of suggestions we’ve hand-picked and make the most of the holiday.
Playland – Fright Night
Head out to Playland and challenge yourself to a meander through one of seven different haunted houses as part of Fright Nights. Grab some friends who are sticking around town for the holiday weekend and prepare to be scared sh*tless. This year’s Fright Night features a new haunted house, 13 different rides, and other entertainment.
Turkey Sale in Whistler
Skip town and venture up to Whistler this weekend to take advantage of the annual Turkey Sale. The fun starts today (Friday, October 10) at noon and runs through the weekend. It’s the perfect place to go if you’re pining for a new powder-worthy board or skis for the coming winter sports season.
Now’s the time of year when our local farmers markets are hauling in the harvest. Be sure to check out one of several B.C. bazaars setting up shop this weekend and score fresh produce, baked goods, and sweet treats in time for your Thanksgiving feast. Your best bets are Trout Lake Farmers Market, West End Farmers Market, and the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market.
It’s still Oktoberfest! Break out the dirndl once more for a night of beer drinking at the Vancouver Alpen Club’s annual Oktoberfest party. On Friday and Saturday night through next weekend, they’ve got some great international DJ talent, Bavarian beer, bites, and entertainment.
The Turkey Trot is back and is the perfect way to fuel your appetite bright and early Monday morning. This always-fun event is well-organized, offers a stunning waterfront 10km course, and great post-race party you’ll want to stick around for.
Vancouver International Improv Fest
Laugh it up and catch the last weekend of the Vancouver International Improv Festival (ending Saturday, October 11). Now in its 15th year, the festival is packed with some pretty talented performers from around the world – all hamming it up live on stage at Granville Island’s Performance Works Theatre. Get show times and details here.
