The best thing about planning a vacation to Florida is that any time of year is a good time. While some times are better than others it’s hard to find a singular bad week. That being said, depending on your preferences it’s easy to find your best time to visit Universal Orlando.
When to Plan Your Trip
If you’re with kids you may be limited to school holidays. If it’s just adults you have much more flexibility. Once you learn about these times, you may want to go ahead and schedule a tour.
The Worst Times to Visit Universal Orlando
Let’s get some times out of the way. While Florida has sun all year there are times when a trip to Universal Studios becomes less enjoyable.
Summer is many people’s first choice, but there are some problems with this. Firstly, Florida summers are brutal. Average temperatures can soar into the high nineties and so can the humidity. And keep in mind that severe thunderstorms are normal in the afternoon almost every day, which can keep you undercover and off the coasters.
The other summer problem is love bugs, which swarm during spring and late summer for a week or so. While they aren’t harmful they are a major nuisance, gunking up your car and just getting in everything. They can really put a damper on a good time outside just existing, landing on every available surface and sometimes falling in food and drink.
Don’t worry about hurricane season, which goes from June to November. Florida has some of the best hurricane tracking technology in the world so you’ll know well ahead of time if you have to reschedule.
The Best Times to Visit Universal Orlando
If you are going with children and have to go on a holiday you still have options. Just remember to account for travel time so they don’t miss school.
Summer is packed but in late August and early September the crowds die down a bit. Spring break times are busy and tricky to plan around since different school districts get out at different times.
The winter break is another good time to go. If you are from the North and don’t mind lows in the 50s you can take advantage of the cool weeks in December and January to avoid some of Universal Studios busy days.
If it’s just adults then you want to aim for times when students are stuck in class. January and February are good times, although Mardi Gras brings crowds in mid-February.
April through May is the best time to visit Universal Studios you’ll get before summer. After summer, September through November times are a good as long as you avoid Halloween.
Of course, you may want to brave the crowds for Universal’s events. In the fall they host Halloween Horror Nights for a few weeks and in winter they have their holidays and New Years events. In February they host a Mardi Gras event.
