Folks, brace yourselves for today’s #WTFWednesday, because it’s going to blow your brains! What happens when you combine donuts and waffles? You get The Wonut, the superhero of all bakery treats ever created (aka pure bliss). It’s Chicago’s latest food craze, and it’s taking the culinary world by storm. Waffle Cafe Chef Alex Hernandez launched the divine creation last week for his cafe’s second opening in Chi-town, and boy did the crowd go wild. His souped-up waffles – which come in either vanilla, chocolate or red velvet (!) – are baked in a traditional waffle-iron and then deep-fried (because how could you not), dipped in a glaze (your choice between sugar, maple, marshmallow, or chocolate), and then adorned and topped in sugary and sweet goodies just like a donut. Part donut, part waffle… it really couldn’t get any better!
We’re calling it. The Wonut is most definitely the new Cronut. Bow down bitches!
If you’re in the Chicago area, be sure to check out Waffles Cafe to indulge in the famous Wonuts!
