So, the other day when Nicki was OOT for some much needed R&R in Niagara, I snatched up my favourite Italian couple – Ms. Jacqueline Nicosia (events at Andrew Richard Designs) and Il Padrino himself, Chef Roberto Marotta (Maialino Enoteca Italiana) – and hobbled over to the 1,000 Tastes of Toronto Luminato event in the Distillery District.
About 35 restaurants were involved this year, among a few other catering companies and such. We grabbed 10 tickets for 10 tastes – a minutiae of the flavours around the historic compound. From cajun shrimp po-boys at Southern Accent to Tappo’s arancini, from En Ville’s bacon sliders two-ways to Edo’s Kobe beef sausage, Queen Margherita’s Margherita pizza to the Royal Lamington sponge cake coated in chocolate, Jack, Robbie and I left stuffed and fatigued from all the food in the summer sun. (PS I got an awesome tan!)
FYI, when a festival’s going on the Distillery now, you can drink within the boundaries. Just thought you should know. Check out the vlog below to see our little daytime adventure…and see where the 1,000 Tastes moniker clues in and finally makes sense. (I really should read up on things before leaving the house.)
