Imagine it: sitting on the patio with your 3 best friends, sipping cocktails in the sun, toasting to Summer 2021. Gone are the days of takeout only, and getting kicked out at 9pm and we couldn’t be more excited! After months of patiently waiting, patios are finally reopening across Ontario on Friday, June 11th. Not only are patios opening, but going back to a the normal, 2am last call.

What You Need to Know
As we all prepare to hit the patios Friday, there’s a few things you need to keep in mind. Here is what you need to know:

- 4 maximum to a table; exceptions to be made for those in the same household
- Restaurants may go back to regular hours of service (2am last call)
- Contact tracing is still in effect
- Masks must be worn indoors at all times
The safety guidelines for outdoor dining haven’t changed since last summer. We are all still required to wear masks when up from the table, and stick to the 4-friend limit. With last call being back to 2am, it’s starting to feel like our new “normal” is just around the corner.
Restaurant Etiquette
Now, let’s go over some post-COVID patio dos and don’ts. Whether we like it or not, the restaurant experience is a little different right now. I don’t think anyone wants to have bars taken away again, which means we ALL have to do our part. The most important rule: patience. Go easy on your restaurant staff, and don’t forget to tip generously.
Also, considering the expected flood to the bars this weekend, we’d definitely recommend planning ahead. Secure yourself a reservation early or you may find yourself out of luck this Friday. If you do get your reservation, be sure to show up on time – don’t forget your mask – and be prepared to sign in for contact tracing. Depending on the volume of business, restaurants may be enforcing a 2-2.5 hour seating time.

All that’s left to do after that is sit back, eat some delicious food and enjoy a beverage with your friends.
