For the last couple of months I have heard buzz about a new restaurant opening on the Danforth – but not just any restaurant – a destination restaurant serving Mediterranean fare with a modern twist. Tuesday night I was invited to this restaurant’s opening night: Four One Seven – Destination Danforth. This was the party of the night and we were thrilled to try their menu by executive chef Kai Zyganiuk. I say great job. The food was very, very tasty and what I liked most is that he uses flavours that people love while still making the dishes unique.
Aside from the delicious food, which you can vicariously indulge in through our vlog below, the vibe was happening. Of course who was behind this fancy opening night? Mr. Mike Chalut, my over-the-top, fabulous friend and host of Pride FM’s “The Mike Chalut Show”. He has hosted galas, organized major events and opened many top restaurants in the city so the extraordinary turnout of beautiful people was no surprise. Music was pumping, drinks were “abundantly” circulating and the beautiful people of Toronto were out to have a good time.
The vision for Four One Seven comes from Eleni Gountanos and her parents, Anthony and Sophie Pavlou. This lovely family of three has 30 years experience in the food business and had a vision for this restaurant. Eleni’s favourite elements of fire and water heavily influenced the theme, with water representing tranquility and life, while fire stands for the spice of life, the sound of crackling wood during family time around the fireplace, and the sizzle of food on the grill. Family and the community of the Danforth are very important to the this family and it seems this will remain the focus of their mission to making Four One Seven a true Danforth destination.
