Fashion trends from the 2000s are back and it’s giving us some serious nostalgia. We don’t deny that they were some cringy fashion trends in the 2000s but, history must repeat itself. It also just happens to be a period of time when we were introduced to some of the best fictional characters of all time. With Halloween just around the corner, we’re telling you how you can recreate some iconic looks from characters that deserve to be celebrated.

The Plastics From Mean Girls
You can easily find something in your wardrobe to be one of the Plastics from one of the best teen movies ever made, Mean Girls. The costume designer of the movie Mary Jane Fort said the Plastics wardrobe was inspired by candy. The plastics outfits usually consisted of blue and pink pastel shades. If you want to mimic their outfits you definitely need a mini skirt. The top can either be a t-shirt with a sassy slogan or a zip-up hoodie. Some key accessories Regina wears are the Louis Vuitton cherry blossom pochette bag, the matching LV belt and an R necklace she wears with almost every outfit. So if you’re recreating one of the outfits from The Plastics make sure to wear a tiny handbag, your name necklace (if you have one), shimmery eyeshadow, and lots of lip gloss of course (preferably in pink).

Elle Woods
Legally Blonde’s main character Elle Woods is known to be one of the most stylish fictional characters of all time. We all know Elle’s signature colour is pink so it’s the perfect time to utilize anything pink you may have. If you want to mimic Elle’s proposal breakup dress you need a halter dress in pink of course (she actually wears several different pink halter dresses in the movie) or recreate her most famous look from the movie the pink courtroom dress with the belt. Some accessories she almost always wears with her outfits are diamond stud earrings, her Please Return to Tiffany heart tag bracelet and her necklace. Of course, you don’t have to break the bank to look like her. To recreate her outfits I would look at sites like Nasty Gal, Pretty Little Thing, and Amazon.
Jenny Rink
Jenny Rink is the fabulous editor at Poise Magazine from one of the best rom-com movies of all time 13 Going on 30. Her most popular look in the movie is of course the colourful Versace dress she wore while dancing to Thriller. An almost exact replica of the dress is sold on Amazon for less than $20, but don’t forget the butterfly necklace and that spiky bun to complete the look. ’The actress who played young Jenna Rink, Christa Allen who is now 30 actually recreated the whole entire look on her Tik Tok page! It definitely made us nostalgic for the past. You can also easily recreate some of her looks with clothes you may have in your closet like the floral corset look she wears to the photo shoot or the pink cardigan outfit she wears when doing her presentation.
Lizzie McGuire
We were devastated when we heard the Lizzie McGuire reboot fell through, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep her memory alive. Some say her outfits were hideous but they were a lot of awful 2000s fashion trends, it’s not Lizzie’s fault. Lizzie wore everything from tie-dye, sequins, zebra print, and accessories like headbands, bandanas, and chokers. The costume designer of Lizzie Mcguire, Kimberly Adams said that Lizzie’s, “Bright and vibrant style was made up of mixing patterns, color blocking, and layering — accessories, especially.” If you can find pink tie-dye pieces and pair them with wide-leg pants, a choker, and add a headband you’ll start to look just like Lizzie.
Blair Waldorf
Although, there’s now a Gossip Girl reboot Blair Waldorf will forever be one the most iconic characters of all time. Of course, you can also dress like her bestie Serena Van Der Woodsen, but we love Blair’s style just a bit more. Blair’s style is more feminine, prim, and polished compared to Serena’s outfits. You can recreate her school uniform with a white collared shirt, plaid skirt, blazer, and of course her signature accessory the headband. She wore a few amazing white dresses on the show, like the Marc by Marc Jacobs she wore when tells Chuck to confess his love for her. You might be able to find something similar to it in a thrift store or in one of your friend’s closets.
