Maialino Enoteca… I have been long awaiting a chance to taste Chef Roberto Marotta’s (aka Chef Robbie) delicious simple Sicilian fare. Last Tuesday my patience paid off. I was privy to a 5-course meal paired with lovely wines at Maialino and now I can’t wait to go back. The evening was charming beginning with a glass of Prosecco while mingling amongst Toronto food writers and bloggers. Stella of www.FoodJunkieChronicles.com and I scouted the best seats at the family style table and patiently waited for the first course to arrive – I actually starved myself for 24hrs so I was ready…!
To our delight, they brought out a pre-first course of lovely Italian charcuterie and cheese. One thing to be noted: the meats (other than a couple cured in-house) and cheeses are so obviously not local but rather straight from Italy – the freshness and flavour makes this obvious and a nice change from the many restaurants doing local charcuterie boards. After indulging in the boards, the meal commenced… and what a meal! From a pastaLESS eggplant lasagna to the best short ribs I’ve ever tasted, we managed to finish all five courses and roll home – not without a lovely goodie bag that included homemade biscotti (perfect for breakfast).
Watch some of Toronto’s favourite foodies satisfy their Sicilian craving and hear Chef Robbie’s inspiration behind the Maialino menu!
