Hair is getting athletic this season, with looks that resembled “post-gym dos” making their debut on the runways at Thakoon, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Rag & Bone for FW14. With its slick sheen around the crown of the face and fluffy texture in the back, this look is low-maintenance meets high-impact.
The lead hairstylist for Thakoon, Odile Gilbert, combined contrasting wet and matte textures to achieve the models “gym chic” styles. Making sure that the hair is dry and targeting the back section, Gilbert recommends first using a pump of Powder Bluff, which is a texturizing dry shampoo minus the white residue. Next, she says to apply a liberal amount of Lift Vertige (a lifting hair gel) to the crown of the head, massaging it into the front hairline to achieve an ultra-slick, wet look. Finally, finish off with a spritz of hair mist for an extra glossy finish.

At 3.1 Phillip Lim, hair stylist Paul Hanlon mimicked the look of sweat using a Moroccanoil treatment to give the models shiny roots and then pushing them up into a slight pompadour. The look is easy, casual, and slippery – as if the hair is going to fall out of its coif at a moment’s notice.
Rag & Bone’s models sported messy, low-slung buns with greasy roots, intended to evoke the feeling of “Saturday hair,” which is when one gets up on a Saturday morning and throws their hair back into a knot after a week of not washing it. We all do it, it just so happens that now it’s considered chic! To help attain this effect, try Osis+ Rough Rubber, which has qualities similar to that of pomade but will give a more natural, piecey look.
