Bloor Street Entertains takes over the classy strip of Yorkville this Thursday (November 29th) night for an evening of pure indulgence and luxe experiences in support of CANFAR – Canada’s sole independent charity dedicated to raising awareness and finding a cure for HIV and AIDS. The theme for the 25th year is inspiring and ever-so apropos: FOCUS ON THE POS[+]VE.
The story of this epic culinary event dates back to September 29, 1988 when an event called Food For Thought was launched as a way to help bring awareness to and support CANFAR during the AIDS outbreak of the 80s. Its first year raised $150,000 for Canadian AIDS research. A decade later saw the rebranding and reformatting as Bloor Street Entertains, wherein dinners are prepared by prominent city chefs and served in the luxury boutiques and shops lining Bloor Street, with sales floors elegantly designed by top Toronto florists. Thus far, Bloor Street Entertains has raised in excess of $5million dollars for Canadian HIV and AIDS research.
This year’s dinners will be held at venues like BOSS Bloor Street, Harry Rosen, Tiffany & Co., Diesel, Cartier, Pink Tartan, Roots, and the list goes on. And the gastronomical talent? The likes of Jamie Kennedy, Corbin Tomaszeski, Bruce Woods, Brad Long, Paul Boehmer, Rob Gentile, and Trevor Wilkinson are but a few of the heavyweights who will be preparing unreal, multi-course dinners for the guests lining the gorgeous pop-up tables.

La Societe Bistro, for instance, will help transform Mont Blanc into an upscale dining room, showcasing their famed French cuisine prepped by Head Chef James Olberg. The 16 guests at this particular pop-up will feast on tuna tartare and braised short ribs, among a host of other Parisian inspired delights.
And, for the first time in Bloor Street Entertains’ history, a post-event gala will be held at the ROM where Toronto influencers will abound in a specially curated “magical playground” filled with hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and surprises aplenty. What’s great about the addition of the Twilight [Plus] party is the accessibility for those not on the top tier of the society scene to purchase a ticket and support CANFAR themselves. We might just have to check it out, too…
