When the New York Times officially marked the return of the espresso martini, it quickly became available at almost every restaurant across the USA and Canada. Now, there’s an official day to commemorate everyone’s favourite coffee cocktail. National Espresso Martini Day is on March 15 and there are tons of places across the city to celebrate. Read on to find out our favourite spots to sip on espresso martinis across Toronto.
Melrose on Adelaide
Located at the bustling corner of John and Adelaide, this dimly lit cocktail bar offers an array of unique drinks and a romantic, intimate atmosphere. The drinks are complemented by a Mediterranean-inspired snack menu that includes a selection (yes, a selection) of charcuterie boards. Melrose on Adelaide‘s espresso martini is crafted with Tito’s Vodka, Averna, Kahlua, Aquafaba and cold brew.
Luma
Located on King Street, Luma offers a view over one of the liveliest neighbourhoods in the city, with a well-rounded and creative cocktail menu that perfectly fits the vibe. Luma is inside the TIFF Bell Lightbox, and so each cocktail is named after an iconic movie. The espresso martini is named the Breakfast at Tiff(any’s), after the Truman Capote novel that became an iconic Audrey Hepburn film. The rendition is made with Smirnoff vodka, McGuinness crème de cacao, cold brew coffee and brown sugar syrup, and is available on the Magic Hour happy hour menu.

Moxies
With tons of locations across the city and in the suburbs, Moxies offers an affordable way to celebrate National Espresso Martini Day on March 15. The restaurant’s expert mixologists crafted a classic recipe to satisfy any cocktail connoisseur, including the original flavours of this beloved cocktail featuring Irish Cream, Kahlúa, Black Coffee Rum, and espresso but added a twist: vanilla vodka.
Voodoo Child
Espresso bar and bakery by day, a cocktail bar by night, this College Street spot offers light snacks, from cheese plates to nachos to sandwiches, to compliment the expansive cocktail menu. The best part is that Voodoo Child offers an espresso martini menu, a selection of five different variations of the cocktail with different liquors involved, from rum to bourbon and even tequila.
