For a decade now, Ontario brewers and beer drinkers have been recognizing the best brews this province has to offer at the Ontario Brewing Awards. Taking place last night at the Gladstone Hotel and presented by Beerlicious Inc., this was one batch of honours that will never go stale.
Local food pairings were on offer and there was live entertainment by Electric Equation as the gala unfolded. With new categories being added to keep pace with current tastes and demands in the market – such as Best Gluten Free Beer and Best Barrel Aged Beer – this was an awards ceremony worthy of the most hop-conditioned palates. Host Roger Mittag, a professor of beer at Thirst for Knowledge, admitted that, “Ontario has a lot to be proud of with its beers. Brewers across the province are producing some incredible flavours that are truly unique. “

What’s also new this year is the Home Brewer’s Award sponsored by Lake of Bays Brewing Company. Do you bottle your own suds and think they’re the sh**? The Home Brewers category is an opportunity for non-professional brewers to display their works and test their efforts against their peers.
The 10th annual Ontario Brewing awards turned out to be a full bodied success with notes of passion and a robust aftertaste of pride. Check out a few of the top selections below and see the full list of winners online…
