“Friendship is so weird… you just pick a human you’ve met and you’re like ‘yep, I like this one’ and you just do stuff with them.”
– @BillMurray, Twitter
A friend of mine posted the above quote on Facebook and it got me thinking about the importance of friendship and how life-changing it can be when you finally find someone you connect with. When I emigrated from the UK almost 9 years ago, I found it incredibly difficult to find friends. I was young and married which didn’t go in my favour! I grew up with a solid group of girlfriends who I am still close with today, but with an ocean separating us it became increasingly depressing and isolating and it really gave me a whole new perspective on friendship and how sacred it is. I can happily say now that I am the proud owner of a few amazing friends, ones that have helped me through some major life changes and encouraged me to follow my heart with the help of copious amounts of wine, music and laughter.

Finding good friends as an adult can be tough; expectations are high. Real friendship is being able to not judge one another when the craziness of life gets in the way and you have managed little more than a few texts for over a month. A true friend is the one who will drop everything and come to meet you in jogging pants and a baseball hat because that crazy life has become just a little too much this week and you need to vent over a bottle of wine before you murder a stranger. And when there is only that one person that you know will really tell you if your ass looks big in those jeans, you’ll be sure to hold on to that one for life.
Friends are the family we choose, the ones we turn to when life is being an asshole. In honour of all the good friendships we rely on to stay sane, check out our roundup of our favourite Tinseltown Twosomes…
Jenn and Courtney
They have come a long way since their days as Rachel and Monica and we just love that even after all these years they are still best buds. In a recent interview with More, Jenn gushed over her BFF – revealing that Courtney has been there for her “through thick and thin.” She added, “I’ve slept in her guest bedroom a lot,” reminding us that even the rich and famous need a shoulder to lean on at times. Here’s to 20 more years of this gorgeous union.

Brad and George
Speaking of gorgeous unions, we would die to be part of these jokesters’ clique. The rumours are countless about the naughtiness these two heartthrobs get up to and the crazy lengths they will cross to carry out some serious pranks on one another. During a recent Q&A on Reddit, Mr.Clooney divulged details on one of the most impressive efforts from his best man-friend:
“We were shooting Ocean’s 12 in my hometown in Lake Como, and he had a flier sent around saying George only wants to be called by his character’s name Danny Ocean, don’t look him in the eyes. It got into the local paper. As you know, jokes don’t translate at all, and they called me il divo, and said that I was treating the crew like s–t. When it got into the paper I came downstairs and Brad had the paper in his hand, and I said, ‘You’re mine from here on out.’ Brad just said, ‘Please don’t harm my children.’ Yeah, he’s done some pretty rotten things.”
Gorgeous, talented and still goofy… It’s a bromance made in heaven.
Taylor and Selena
It is no secret that being a 20-something girl provides a multitude of drama. Making mistakes becomes a daily ritual and that’s okay because it is a rite of passage that is essential to personal growth. But imagine having to make all these mistakes on a global stage. These 2 pop starlets have had to do just that with breakups and breakdowns being splashed all over the media for the world to see and strangers to judge. Every girl in her 20s needs a bestie to vent to, even the rich and famous ones. We would just love to be a fly on the wall when the next Biebs scandal goes down.

Michelle and Busy
When it comes to celeb BFFs these two have to be my faves. The pretty blonde duo have been best budz since back in the days of Dawson’s Creek and they have continued to support each other through highs and lows, both personal and professional. Busy is often seen as Michelle’s ‘plus 1’ at major events, and Michelle recently made a hilarious cameo on Busy’s popular show Cougar Town. But as successful as she is, Busy manages to maintain a pretty low profile, something that is sure to be refreshing in the crazy world of Hollywood. She is also freaking hilarious. Everybody needs a Busy in their lives!

Tina and Amy
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler go together like peanut butter and chocolate. Like vodka and olive juice, they are perfectly paired and they provide an instant injection of fun. It’s insane to think that two such incredibly talented gals found each other, but in 1993 their love of comedy saw them both attend the same improv class and, well, the rest is history. They work together, they play togetherm and they do it all so well together. Tina and Amy for president!
