Restaurant reservations have been elusive in Toronto since before Covid, and can sometimes be a difficult dance. With so many yummy options across the city, picking a place, finding a reservation and deciding what to eat can be a bit overwhelming. But, ChatGPT can help, thanks to OpenTable. A new collaboration effort helps make deciding where to eat in the city easier than ever.
About ChatGPT and OpenTable
OpenTable is an exclusive launch partner with the latest ChatGPT efforts, according to a release. “Now when one of ChatGPT’s 13 million daily users asks “What’s the best restaurant for date night,” OpenTable will answer, recommending your restaurant and others on our network,” the release reads.
Essentially, when a question about where to eat is asked, ChatGPT will share up-to-date restaurant information from a selection of eateries across the city to help diners choose a reservation that best fits their needs and wants.

The program is still in the early phases, and OpenTable is inviting all restaurants to connect with the online platform and ensure that each eatery is optimized for search across all platforms, including the ChatGPT feature, which has rolled out to a small number of Canadian and American subscribers already. The slow rollout allows OpenTable to understand more about the bot’s real-world application. But, future beta launches and more are already in the works, according to the release.
ChatGPT is an OpenAI chatbot, and OpenAI recently introduced a collection of plugins to add to ChatGPT to optimize the experience. The new plugins also include a feature that works with InstaCart.
According to RestaurantDive, “OpenTable said it is the first restaurant tech company to partner with ChatGPT. Its sister company, Kayak, is also collaborating with the chatbot to provide flight, hotel and rental car recommendations.”
