Step into the eclectic world of the 1980s with the Bata Shoe Museum’s newest exhibition, “Dressed to Impress: Footwear and Consumerism in the 1980s,” curated by Nishi Bassi, the museum’s Curator and Exhibitions Project Manager. Opening its doors to the public on November 1, 2023, and running until March 16, 2025, this large-scale retrospective showcases 80 pairs of shoes, meticulously organized into six thematic sections: Dressed for Success, Work Hard, Play Hard, Let’s Get Physical, Mainstream Rebels, Pump it Up, and Designer Highlights.
Explore the era’s significant trends and iconic brands, while delving into the impact of advertising on consumer behaviour. The exhibition ingeniously recreates the ambiance of an 80s shopping mall, complete with a mini movie theatre and a nostalgic food court. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness some of the decade’s most influential shoes, including the Nike Air Jordan Is, John Fluevog Winklepickers, Susan Bennis and Warren Edwards, and many more. The museum held an opening party for the exhibit. Check out who attended below.
